We've posted before about balance billing, a practice where a medical provider bills a patient over and above the amount of the patient's deductible, coinsurance, and copay. Balance billing is against the law in Mississippi, but medical providers are doing it anyway.
Things get worse when the medical provider sends these balance bills to collections agencies. The patient starts getting threatening phone calls and letters, and may even wind up sued as a result of the illegal bill. Frankly, the collection agencies should know better. Balance billing has been illegal in Mississippi for 6 years, after all.
